DJI’s Mavic Mini and Mavic Mini 2 rate equally high on quality and performance and compete for first price in the popularity race among discerning consumers globally. How to choose between two winners, especially two with the same aesthetic appeal? I decided to research recent reviews of Mark Wilson, TechRadar’s drone aficionado.
Except for the price difference (the Mini 2 is only about 10% more expensive) four distinct differences set the two models apart: video quality, performance, motor capacity and speed.
The video quality of the DJI Mavic Mini 2 is significantly higher and ideal for big screen filming.
Let’s Compare Performance:
It is evident from the specifications that Mavic Mini 2 boasts stronger motors, but this feature doesn’t cause this drone to significantly outperforms the Mavic Mini. However, the latest model is faster.
For a small drone that struggles in breezy conditions, the Mini 2 can apparently withstand slightly stronger winds. Although this feature isn’t a huge improvement on the Mavic Mini it is fair to conclude that neither model is suitable for flying in real gusty conditions.
DJI designed different transmission systems for different models. Beginner drones is operated by Enhanced Wi-Fi, which is the system for DJI Mavic Mini. Thanks to a new controller, the Mini 2 has a more advanced proprietary system called Ocusync 2.0.
Therefore, you will be able to control and see the Mini 2’s video feed from further away than on the Mavic Mini. While the latter’s maximum range is 4 km its successor promises to be controllable via a reliable HD video feed from 6 km away.
Bear in mind that these distances are maximums and, you’ll get somewhere between a 3km-6km range in populated areas with many competing signals.
